Minoxidil (Rogaine 5%)Minoxidil was the first drug approved by the FDA for the treatment of hair loss. Originally developed as a drug to treat high blood pressure, it was discovered that the topical application of the drug on balding areas could result in new growth. Minoxidil has been shown to be particularly effective in the crown of the scalp, slowing hair loss and stimulating new hair growth.

Minoxidil works by increasing the flow of blood to the targeted area. It is applied directly to the scalp. It can be used by both men and women.

Propecia (Finasteride 1mg)Finasteride was originally developed as a treatment for enlarged prostate glands. As a side effect, hair growth was observed. Today, Finasteride is the first FDA approved drug to effectively treat male pattern baldness in the majority of men who use it. Finasteride works by inhibiting the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is responsible for targeting hair follicles, eventually leading to baldness. Unlike Minoxidil, Finasteride is taken in pill form and recommended for male con

The hair in the scalp are arranged in the form of groups called grafts. Each graft consists of 1-5 hair. These grafts are removed from the permanent zone of back and sides of the head. The hair in these grafts do not have testosterone receptor in the area of the hair root and do not respond to the male hormone, testosterone. Also other sources of hair include: beard, chest, abdomen, legs. Our expert surgeon has mastered the art of removing the grafts with minimal damage.

Hair loss has been a problem for men since the beginning of time. Its causes have defied explanation but generations have searched for ways to combat the dilemma and to handle its consequences. When various concoctions failed to work, comb-overs became the fashion, from as early as Julies Caesar via Napoleon and through to the modern day. But a strong wind could wreak havoc with that solution. The best wigs and toupees never looked natural while being hot and uncomfortable. Men have had to settle on either bad hair or no hair. The causes of male pattern hair loss have remained largely a mystery until fairly recently when scientists discovered a genetic and hormonal link to the problem. Genetics contribute a large part, whereby inherited tendencies follow a certain pattern, and hormones play a critical role. Androgen, or any of the hormones that combine to control male characteristics, such as testosterone, can trigger hair loss when found in combination with an age-related enzyme called 5 alpha reductase. The product of these two is called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). When this perfect storm of hormones, genetic and aging meets, DHT begins interfering with the regrowth of hair follicles in particular areas of a man’s scalp, causing them to fall out permanently. Most men will lose some hair with age, others will experience hair loss quite young or for other reasons entirely. Medical Alopecia (hair loss) can be caused by a number of factors from chemotherapy and radiation treatments to complications from an illness, such as diabetes.
